I would love to know where to get in-season fruit pies! Especially peach!

I know that many people will probably disagree with me as most either love or hate this place, but I think Afterwords Cafe at Kramerbooks has great pies.
As a Georgian, I don't eat peach pie/cobbler outside of the South. It's just silly to even try.

Hmm... besides my grandmother, none that I know of! It's definitely something I should look in to....

If you don't mind a small road trip, the best fruit (not to mention chocolate cream) pies are at Mom's Apple Pie Bakery. I know the one in Leesburg, but I think they also have one in Warrenton and one or two other locations. It's one of the few places that sells rhubarb pie - straight up or with strawberries. And they grow their own fruit!!

I also vote for Mom's Apple Pie. Been to the main office in Sterling....great selection of pies. Mouth watering like Pavlov's dog thinking of that tart rhubarb.. They supply alot, I mean ALOT...truckloads, of pies to restaurants in the Wash DC area....so if you have a restaurant that has great pies...ask if they get it from Mom's.
On Route 15 north of Leesburg you will find farms off the side of the road (Frmer John's) selling pies that look homemade. Don't be fooled. They are frozen pies from Mexico. How I know this? A label was stuck on the bottom of my pie tin.....On the plus side...peach season is coming.....Farmer Johns has a great selection of fresh tree ripened peaches...you will be eating half your bag before you start your car...
.....hmmm looking at the dates of this tread....did the wedding happen already?????
Has anyone ever had a pie party where everyone brings one or two different pies??...coordinated of course so you don't get 24 apple pies.....

mmmmm....pie!
Some friends of mine did wedding pie instead of wedding cake which I think is a BRILLIANT idea!

Mom's Apple Pie in Herdon...fresh pies including Boston Creme, Cherry, sometimes Rhubarb, etc.

Sorry...Herndon. They have a small outlet not far from the Target store off the Fairfax County Parkway.

Kathleen...how far does your grandmother live from DC? Her house big enough for a Yelp event?

Another vote for Mom's Apple Pie.
I don't know if it's available to purchase as a whole pie, but the chess pie at Vidalia is unbelievably delicious.

Kathleen M. says:
Hmmm Clint, she lives in Augusta, GA-- about a 8 hour clip from DC. But if Yelpers are willing to drive 2-3 hours for ice cream and Sonic.....

Hahaha. Oh man. If I took you guys on a gastronomic tour of the south, you'd never come back north. You'd also probably be a bit embarassed coming back to your friends 15 pounds heavier after one weekend.

Just 15lbs - I can spare that right now by doctors would love for me to gain that much weight! So I am down for a southern gastronomic tour! Can we have grits on this Road Trip :)

Ok...so who is in for Atlanta?.....and who makes the call to Kathleen's grandma????? I absolutely have to have an authentic Georgia peach pie. PEACH SEASON IS JUST STARTING................
Next best option.....Kathleen..when is your next trip to Grandma's?....shouldn't you be paying your respects soon? If you do...how much would it take to bribe you and grandma to bring back several peach pies to wash dc. Then we can have a special Yelp event honoring your grandma......

This will probably get me panned but... Costco. Good pies.
You won't get panned by me....Costco has great pies....5 stars if you also consider $'s/lb of pie. They can't be beat for quality and price.
Mom's is still one of the best for quality and variety. Their strawberry rhubarb has passed the Pennsylvannia Dutch test.(co worker)...and you know how picky those people are about their food.....espeically baked goods like pies.

Reeve's Bakery.
For peach cobbler, I'd say Georgia Brown's. But you'd have to eat it at the bar or take-out, lest you get stuck with an overpriced faux southern meal.

Just returned from the South (where I was with my grandmother). In 4 days I think I ate 10 peaches. Oh man. So good.

Dammit Kathleen! I so envy you with those peaches. My folks in Texas have a small peach orchard, and I soooooo miss fresh peaches. Did you have pie too?
09/05/2007
Kathleen M. says:
No pie (we live in a bake-free zone when we're on vacation), but my grandmother did make something even better with them: you just slice the peaches and top with evaporated milk and a little cinnamon. The best.

Mary Kay "(Well) Seasoned Yelper" S. says:
Mmm yes -- my grandmother used to put heavy cream on top of the sliced peaches. Similar effect I'm sure. Oh, why did science have to discover these things were bad for us?

My cousin was just here from australia and was missing meat pies... anyone know where to get those around here? The other one I get cravings for is cauliflower cheese pies. oooh, soo good!

Based on this discussion, I went to Mom's Apple Pie Co this weekend. They had freshly baked pies sitting on the counter cooling when I came in. I bought a fresh apple and fresh raspberry. As I gave both to people as gifts, I didn't eat either, but my dad reported the raspberry was amazing. I will never know how the apple pie tastes because my in-laws don't thank me for anything, but that's a whole new Yelp thread!

The closest thing i have seen here to meat pies are the Jamaican meat pies Most Jamaican restaurants seem to have them. I went to Monetgo Bay in Balitmore.

No. And I hope I can find one too. The only place in the United States where I have ever seen meat pies served as their specialty is the Pasty Kitchen near Los Angeles. It was one of my favorite places to eat when I lived out there.
