Ok so I'm in Boston about every 4 weeks and I keep trying different 'top' restaurants...but I have to say Boston dining has been getting consistently low marks in my book.

Are there any really exceptional places I've missed? Pray tell!

Here's a starter kit... 1 star: Men Tei (Hereford and Newbury), 2 star: Cambridge Brewing Co (Kendall), 3 star: Oleana (Inman), 4 star: Mistral (South End)

I'd love to see some people start adding their Top 10 Lists for Restaurants in Boston. I'm planning a trip there soon, so am looking for some great suggestions. Not good, great.

You guys are looking in the wrong places----take it from a true Bostonian!!  I saw your very short list of Boston places and could tell that you haven't really explored the city...esp.  if you think Dunkin Donuts chain has goodd coffee :)  It is hard to really put up a list of top 10 Boston restaurants 'cause it depends on what type of cuisine you like (but I will try my darnest.

In case you are really lost, most of the. best  and hottest places are on the newbury st. block, moderate to expensive.   Most  of the restaurants are pretty good and you pretty much all types of cuisine.  A second option would be the North End.

Maybe check out Davis and Inman Sq or South End for new places to eat.

Royal Sonestra... hmm.... well Helmand is nearby, Afghan cooking. I didn't like the waiting staff, but the place has some decent reviews, so you could check it out. I'm not too familiar with East Cambridge food experience otherwise.

Unless you don't want to travel at all for dinner, I'd suggest either (1) walking down Cambridge St towards Inman Sq, you'll run into a shitload of interesting and good places to eat or (2) take the Green line at Lechmere down to Haymarket and walk over to North End for some Italian grub.

i've also been hearing good things about the North End and Cambridge street.

also, any fun bars to hit in that area??? i was looking and it seems most of the bars are in back bay, right?

If you're staying at the sonesta you won't be too close, walking wise, to anything but the galleria; however the green line is right there.  You can easily hop on and head downtown to check out back bay and/or the faneuil hall area.

Definitely give Helmand a try though--they're fun.
