My husband goes to SportClips at I35 and Slaughter.  He regularly sees Michelle.  I swear he would drive to San Antonio for her if necessary.  She usually has a line of guys waiting while the other stylists are twiddling their thumbs.  They do not accept appointments, so call ahead and ask if they are busy.  Good luck!  :)

I don't live in Austin anymore but the barber shop I most liked when I was here (and when I had enough hair to warrant regular haircuts) was at South Fifth Street and West Mary.  It's a very old-fashioned sort of place, great prices, and the guys really know what they're doing.

Give Avenue Barber Shop on S. Congress a try.  I've had great luck there.  Mine's just a buzz cut but they do all kinds and everyone I know who's been is pleased with their results.
