My favorite Tats have been done from this location, its been a while since I've had any work done but see if Chris is still around, he put a tribute piece on my right shoulder for a great friend of mine who passed away. Took almost 6 hours of drilling but well worth the pain. He also did some Celtic stuff on my wife's ankle that everyone loves, he worked with her on the design, she brought in what she thought she wanted.. Chris talked with her and made something original that exceeded her expectations. I don't think he charges enough, He has great talent!
Parking it a bitch! minus one star....

I totally love my tattoo! Thank you Robert Egbert! I got exactly what I wanted, a frog on a leaf on my shoulder. I brought in a drawing from a book, with the frog colored in, but not the leaf. For my tattoo, they used a light board to project that image from the book, to a prototype and from that Robert was able to replicate the frog onto my shoulder, as the same exact size. Then he added in color for the leaf and it is perfect! While I don't plan to get another tattoo (at least, not for now), I recommend Slave to anyone else who wants to get a tattoo. I went to the Wallingford location because I heard that it was better. I have pics of my tattoo in my profile.

You know when you finally have really, really good sex for the first time and realize that all that young adult bumping and thrusting that you had been doing until that moment was pretty lame and then you wish that you could have experienced all the glory and brain melting love smut that you've just found since the dawn of time?

Yeah.  Well, Slave to the Needle made me feel the same way except about tattoos.  Now, I had gotten a few tattoos done at a different Seattle tattoo shop and it was always over with too quick and it never ended up how i envisioned it, very much how i hope sex is for most people just to make myself feel better.  That's not to say it was bad in anyway, it just pales in comparison to my first time at Slave to the Needle.  Even when there were other people in the room, which can make things awkward or uncomfortable at the best of times, i always felt that all the attention i needed was on me.

And, like the best things about really great sex, my new tattoo was made even better by the fact that i had to wait to get it.  I couldn't just walk in and say 'i want this this way exactly' and walk out an hour later, contented, if a bit sore in a place that had never been sore before.  No, this piece had to be thought about and tailored specifically to me and my needs.  It had to fit just so and once the bandages came off, it totally did.

As a lover, i think the best experiences are when you put your trust in the person you're with and know that you will have a great time at their hands, even if you don't know what's going to happen exactly.  I now believe that this holds true for tattoos.  This was the first time i let the control slip from my grasp and let the artist render my ideas for me.  I didn't have a design picked out but i knew what i needed in a general, vague, way.  And like all good partners, i opened up and told the artist what that was and i wasn't let down.

In fact, it turned out better than i could have ever expected because, even after i saw the final design, it changed just enough during the actual act of tattooing to be not just a picture on paper that someone else could have too, but something that was specifically mine.  It sneaks it's way around bits of me in a way that no one else could duplicate.   Even when it went somewhere I had had tattooed before, it still felt knew and awesome.

And now I want more.  A lot more.

Bare in mind, however, like some sex, tattoos cost money.  And like expensive sex, it pays to do a little research before you blow your wad on blowing your load....figuratively speaking.  Check out the many and varied portfolios in house and online.

I have two tattoos, both of which I have gotten done at Slave to the Needle.  The first one (The Zelda Mastersword on my leg, bitches!!!1) was at their Ballard location with Josh, and the second one was with Chris in Wallingford (the Zelda hearts on my chest/boob...sensing a pattern? ^-^)

I freaking love my tattoos, and both experiences I had were awesome - Josh and Chris are both really talented, really professional, and really friendly.

So the second time I went:

It was my dad's birthday and my mom and I decided we were going to trick him into going to a tattoo parlor.  I was going to get my second tattoo (the hearts on my booby), and my mom was going to get a tattoo of The Little Rabbit who Wanted Red Wings from the eponymous children's story (I know, right?  My parents are freaking rad.)  My mom has a tattoo of a rose on HER booby from when she was a foxy little youngin (runs in the family) but my dad was tattoo-less.

So my mom makes up some story about us getting drinks in Wallingford before going to the play we have tickets to.  Then we walk into Slave to the Needle and are all "Surprise!  There are appointments for ALL THREE OF US!"

At which point my dad pulls the most awesome 180 in history going from having made fun of my mother and I for having tattoos/thought of me as a degenerate, to not only going with the flow of getting a tattoo, but gets a freaking HUGE BAND AROUND HIS ARM of two roses (one for me, and one for my mother AWWW) with thorns and shit coming out of the vine.  Pretty badass, especially for a man who has never had ink before his 54th b-day.

Anyway, so I go last, and before each of my parents go I'm reassuring them about how it doesn't hurt much, blah blah.  And each of them goes up there like effing troopers and are all "la dee da, needle digging into my flesh, ho hum!"  And then it's my turn and I've been all big talk the whole time, and I'm feeling pretty confident, cuz the booby is a pretty fleshy place, so this should hurt even less than my calf tattoo (which didn't hurt at all, really), riiiiiiiiiight????

Well, the problem with this widely held theory is that it doesn't take into account sensitivity and things like, well, nerve-endings and whatnot.  And the chest is a VERY sensitive area, esp. for me (just ask my exes, har har.)  Chris asks me if I'm ready, I nonchalantly say "yeah no biggie" and then he proceeds to spend the next 45min. digging his needle into my chest while tears roll down my cheeks, my body spasming slightly and my parents laughing their asses off.

But I don't hold it against Chris or Slave to the Needle, he did a great job, as did Josh on my first tattoo.  Super clean, professional, friendly at both locations.  And they spend an appropriate amount of time on it, no overworking.  My chest tattoo is very simple graphically and took only 45 min, with no sacrificing the work.  The sword took only about an hour and a half, and given the level of detail and the amount of color, I think that's completely amazing.

Just like, if you're thinking of getting your tits tatted, be forewarned.  That's the best piece of advice I've got for you.

My fiance thought I was spending too much, but hello, if you're going to let someone near your body with a needle, you need to be sure they are a certain level of professionalism and talent.  In this case, I got what I paid for... I had Ron at the Wallingford location do some reworking of an orginally sub-par "home made" tattoo, and he also covered up one nearby.  It was an amazing job - he didn't lose the original feel, which I liked.  Wonderful experience... I'll be going back.

After many many years of contemplating my first tat, I finally just went for it.  I decided to start with one on my neck because I think it looks hot on women.  I decided to put something meaningful and due to lack of space on the back of my neck, I chose initials "FI" which stands for Fuck It.  My friend Sean designed it and it has a cute little heart.

http://flickr.com/phot...

I called up Slave to the Needle because they have a great reputation and happen to be just a few blocks from my house. I love convenience!  They were able to take me the same evening I called which I was greatful for because when I decide to do something I want to do it right away!

I got to the shop and was greeted by friendly peeps and good tuneage.  I met the artist, Brian, and showed him my mockup. After a couple of iterations we settled on the lettering.

Then I sat in the chair and my BFF Ryan started clicking away with my camera.  Brian placed the trace paper, Ryan took a pic and I reviewed. I was happy and Brian got to work.  I was a bit worried about the pain but Brian didn't lie, and said ya, it would hurt a bit. I love honesty!! :)

It took very little time and was over quickly.  Brian was super cool and we were both happy with the results.

I can't wait to go back for my tiger tattoo which I will have done along my side.

Great job!

p.s. I am bummed that they don't do piercings at the Wallingford location anymore...I also wanted to add a new earring. ah well

Slave to the Needle: they are the Dockers wrinkle-free, stain resistent pants of the Seattle tattoo world. Slave does terrific, classic tattoos. Looking through their books and artist bios, they have a great down-to-earth bunch with tons of experience. Each person has experience and a claim to expertise in a certain area: tribal, lots of Asian art, cover-ups. I love that they have someone who actually likes doing cover-up art, which is something so many people look for.

Not an uncommon shop, they charge $50 up front for any work and $75 is usually the minimum. You'll get a clean tattoo in a well-kept shop. It's like wearing khaki pants: not dangerous, but at least you're not wearing jeans (again).

It's easy to make an appointment. You just walk in, pay the down payment, and they give you a card. I think it's awesome that they accept credit cards. A lot of shops don't. At the desk, they do a little consulting. I enjoy that they don't give you crap like a lot of shops do. Sometimes they try to scare you or give you looks. But the people at Slave are very professional and personable.

The down side: I'm not sure how I feel about their art. It's clean and it's sufficient, but it just doesn't pop to me. I know someone who got a dandy small tattoo here. He's very satisfied with it. However, I would think that for my tattoos, which are larger, I would check around for different artists. It could just be my tastes. I do not often wear dress pants, after all. And I like to color on my shoes. So, maybe I'm just not that into Dockers.

But I have to give Slave to the Needle credit for their professionalism, courtesy and general service. Like "nice pants," they get the job done.

I got my first tat done at Slave to the Needle last summer. Picked this place because they had won an award for the past few years for being the best and cleanliest in Seattle. They were definitely professional, fast, and the artist replicated my drawing perfectly (not that it was too difficult... ;) afterwards, my friends and I headed to Teahouse Kuan Yin.

I got my :Wumpscut: tattoo here. Some friends of mine had chipped in to get it done, as they were probably tired of me talking about it.

I came in with my design and the person at the counter quickly determined which artist would be best for my design. I cannot remember her name, unfortunately. But she's the expert in tribal type tattoos.

I made an appointment and got it done. The artist was very professional and did a very skillful job. It was exactly the same as my original design.

There wasn't a lot of chit chat, which was fine by me. Just in and out and I was good to go. If I get any more tattoos, I don't see any reason why I won't return.

I love the guys and gals at Slave! My roommates and I got all of our obligatory college piercings there and Phish was always especially friendly, accepting and tolerant of the scared, giggling university coeds who frequented with me. I have never had bad advice from them about aftercare and have always felt like I got my money's worth!

Went in Friday for my first tattoo.  Results:  I LOVE my tattoo.  You can see it in my photo section :)

Robert was assigned to work on me.  I was really nervous since I've never actually been in a shop before, and didn't know how it worked.  The only reason I'm giving the Slave 4 stars instead of 5 is because when I entered the shop, I didn't find it terribly welcoming while I waited for my time.  I'm not saying it was hostile or cold, but for someone there alone who's never had a tattoo before, it was sort of intimidating.

Once Robert started working on me, I felt much better.  He really is very nice.  What really helped a lot was the other artist, Ed.  He was working at a table next to mine, and deliberately included me in jokes and conversations, which was so totally nice of him.  Thank you, Ed.  You made me feel much more comfortable.  By the way, I saw Ed's work and it was great.  Very clean.  I know I look very conservative, and probably didn't look like I belonged there in the first place.

That explanation being said, I think Robert did a FANTASTIC job on my lower back tattoo.  Once I get home, I'll post a photo of it.  I love it.  If and when I decide on another, I'll be back!   Thanks, Robert!

When I checked my face in the rear view mirror on my way to pick  my little gnome up from preschool last year and realized that my nose ring was not where it should have been I panicked.  I'm a creepy-fast healer.  I had to remove said nose ring once before for an MRI and when the procedure was complete I was already starting to regenerate like noseferatu.  Get it?
Moving on.  The kind folks at Slave met me at the door, as I had a minor in tow, with my new jewelry and sent me on my way.
And when I stopped in recently to hypothetically inquire as to whether or not it is normal for a lump to develop under your piercing, I was whisked into a sterile (but attractive) room and refit with a kinder gentler stud.  No fuss.  No muss.  That's a whole lot of professionalism from an ink shop next to a dive bar.

The best tattoos I have ever seen come from this wonderful shop.  I myself do not have any, but when I decide on one, this is the place I will go to!  This place has won awards for top tattoo and color for the last several years at tattoo expo.  Check it out if you are interested in any tats whatsoever!

I finally had my nose done about 4 years ago at Slave.  David, sweet David, did the job and it was a great experience.  I had wanted to do this for years and finally decided I wasn't going to change my mind.  I'm one of those people who can't get a tattoo because I know I'd hate it after a year or so.  I get bored.
They are VERY clean, David's technique and manner was topnotch.  I think their nose screw selection is just so-so but I did find something I liked.  My husband just got me a diamond/white gold screw from there for Xmas (not a big-ass Tori Welles one, just a little thparkly one...and they bent it for me perfectly.  I just love that we have so much talent in the body modification field right here in Ballard.
One warning:  Kind of funny that I got pregnant like the SECOND I got my nose pierced...coincidence, or some kind of acupressure force of nature at work?  I'll never know.
HA!

This place is the only place I will go for tattoos now. Their artists are super professional and highly skilled, and it's always worth the price. I brought in a design that I had created in photoshop and put on my ipod and the guy actually used my ipod for reference during the sitting. Amazing. I got a design on my wrist about two years ago and it's still incredibly vivid, and I always get compliments on it. Awesome.

One day when I was 14 and I stood looking at my horrid, doom-and-gloom self in a mirror  while I pierced my nose with the gold star earring that was used to originally pierce one of my ears when I was 10 (from Spencer's). I had been holding an ice cube to the left side of my nose that the nostril was hard, frozen. So of course the effort needed to be there to basically punch through the flesh. Poking and twisting the earring until it popped through. No bleeding, mind you, but still throbbing and sensitivity. I kept that for 2 weeks.

Last night I found myself child-less and date-less, on a Friday night which hasn't happened in yeeeeeeeeeeears. I dropped the child off at her child care (Parent's Night Out gig), went to the gas station then the liquor store, and then drove around the Ballard neighborhood for probably too long that I could've been suspicious.

I parked behind the BofA off Market St. and proceeded to wander aimlessly around Ballard. I was hungry but every place I purposefully journeyed to was packed and being solo I really wanted to be comfortable and almost blend in with the furniture. I found my happy spot (Hi-Life), threw back a shot of Herradura Anejo, some vodka-crans, a bleu cheese burger (barely touched the fries), and finished with a Tin Roof sundae, but then I still had an hour to kill before picking up the child.

Consequently I was paying more attention to my driving then this Yelp alludes to.

I called Slave to the Needle on 65th as I pretty much cruised by it. Possible to get my nose pierced then? Yes, but an hour wait at least. More disappointed then I expected, I meandered towards home to kill time there. As I came down 3rd and crossed Market, I actually said aloud, "Screw it, I wanna do this!?

Nicc S. greeted me and was super helpful from the first moment. It was very easy to feel comfortable there as I heard good things about the place, and the reputation at the 65th location is good enough for me. I rambled a bit (if you can believe that), picked a tiny red gem barbell, went into the little backroom, chatted and chatted, talked ink and piercings. He knew the artist of my octo-tat though he had never seen it before. Easy-going and considerate, which when it comes to poking holes in one's face you want.

Also getting your nose (and any other body part) professionally pierced is way better then doing it your dumbass self. Seriously.

Two tattoos (one for me, one for my husband) and a labret piercing. Both tattoos turned out exactly as we had requested/expected, and the labret piercing was a quick and simple procedure. I wish the jewelry selection was wider, but I'm happy with the stud I chose.

The shop is clean and professional. Best of all, they answered all my questions--even the dumb ones--and didn't make me feel silly at all.

Things I like when being pierced:

Cleanliness - first and foremost.
Personable people - but not flaky. I need to be able to trust you with that needle.
Quick and accurate.

Slave to the needle seemed almost clinic-like. Overall, I was really happy with the whole experience.

The only thing that made me a wee bit nervous was that the woman doing my piercing didn't use forceps, like I have had with a previous piercing at a different place.

My initial thought was "This is going to hurt like nothing I have ever felt before - just please don't pass out."

It really wasn't that bad. Inhale. Exhaa (((sharp pain))) le. DONE! Yippieee!

So I have this stupid tattoo that I want to cover up. And I went in to talk to Erica, who has some beautiful floral work. I had a consultation with her, paid my deposit, and told her what I wanted.

Then I chickened out. I thought that maybe, perhaps, I would be better off just lasering the damn thing off - why pay more to have another tat that I might hate in a few years?

So I rescheduled, and rescheduled again. When I finally came in 3 months later, Erica still had my photos and my proposed tattoo. She's a super-nice gal. Anyway, I freaked at the last minute, and she understood. She told me the best place to get a tattoo removed, and where to avoid, and didn't even keep my deposit. Very courteous, considering that I had pretty much wasted 3 hours of her life.

Should I ever decide that it's inkin' time, I will go back here. It IS super clean, and everyone is kind, and no one makes you feel weird for being less-than-completely-tatted-up.

I only have 5 tattoos and I had 2 of them done here. I don't know what criteria most people use to judge a tattoo shop with. For the most part tattoo's are pieces of art and art is subjective,so what appeals to me,may not appeal to someone else?? So for me I give this place 5 stars because of five reasons...
1. It's super clean
2. I was happy with both tattoo's I had done here.
3.The staff is nice and helpful.
4. They have a whole wall adorned with awards they have won.
5. Once I brought some nose jewerly in, that I did not buy there and asked if they could re-bend it for me. They did this happily for me with no charge.

I've been told by 3 separate people that this is the BEST place in town to get a tattoo or piercing. I'd always planned to get a tattoo for my 40th birthday and friends with tattoos and piercings have insisted I can go nowhere else. One 40-ish friend said it's the only place she doesn't feel like anyone is laughing at her for being 40-ish and putting more holes in her body.

No wonder they have won so many awards. This place is absolutely killer. People from all over the state go to Slave to the Needle, even for as much as a piercing! I don't have any tattoos but if I was ever thinking about getting one, I wouldn't go anywhere else but to Salve to the Needle.  I've gotten a few piercings here and was so impressed with the cleanliness and professionalism. The artists really know their stuff and it shows.

I don't like needles (who does, really?) so when I got my nose pierced six years ago I was deathly afraid.  After the needle jammed itself through my right nostril, the piercing guy (his name escapes me at the moment) said I was turning white and asked if I was feeling light-headed. I was, I needed to lay down. He told me to lay there for as long as I want until I felt better. He even gave me a lolli pop to suck on. That was great.

Even if you're debating about whether to get a piercing or tattoo... walk in there (65th location is my favorite) and talk to them. They are willing to help you out and give you suggestions. Price SHOULD NOT be an issue when making a permanent alteration to your body so while they can be expensive, it is well worth it.

Oh yes, I have been to all of the top places on the 'Best Of" Yelp Seattle now.  I'm starting on the second ones.  After contemplating and deciding on a new piercing while I still lived in Austin, the wonderful reviews of Nicc at Slave to the Needle finally got me to suck it up and go.  Also the presence of my Austin "lunch buddy" helped as well, indeed.

The shop was very clean, I went in with a mission and didn't actually really pay any attention to any of the tattoo flash on the walls.  I called yesterday to make sure he would be working and was assured of such.  I didn't even need to make an appointment and I recognized Nicc upon seeing him (interestingly enough, he was also the one that greeted me).  I filled out the legal paperwork and stuff and we were escorted into the back piercing area.  With my job working in surgery, I'm very aware of the sterility of my surroundings.  All the proper equipment was laid out neatly and packed in sterile wrappers.  Nicc asked me a couple more questions and gave me some basic aftercare instructions while he washed his hands.  He also immediately put on a mask once we entered the room...that's a first for me.  Long story short, he changed gloves at least four times during the "procedure," using hand sanitizer after each glove removal.  He also made sure that I saw him open the implements of my piercing sterilely and then the disposal of the needle into a sharps container.  He was very professional and friendly...cutting right to the chase with the aftercare instructions.  Also, he did the piercing freehand (part of the reason I went to him), without using a clamp... which causes bruising and is sometimes more uncomfortable than the piercing itself!

Of course it hurt, but, as I've said time and time again...beauty is pain.

Absolute pros.

On a whim I pierced my tongue when I was 19 (a long time ago), and the man who pierced it was professional and kind. I was scared out of my mind, and he was able to calm me down, while still making sure I wanted to go through with it. I was very pleased with the results, though I no longer have it.

My sister has also had two tatttoos done here as well, and they have turned out beautifully. They have not faded, and they did exactly what she wanted (she brought in a hand drawn picture).

I just got my ears pierced here. So incredibly sanitary! It was amazing. The staff is friendly and completely put me at ease... I didn't even feel the piercing at all. I got a little faint, so she gave me a butterscotch lollipop. It made it worth being a wuss for getting lightheaded. I would recommend Slave to the Needle to everyone. It is amazing, not intimidating at ALL, and SO CLEAN!!

here it goes.

i read a bunch of great reviews for this place, mostly on yelp, and thought it would be a great place to start. i wanted a simple text tattoo on the front of my arm/shoulder and took it in last sunday to have a consult. the guy behind the desk (not sure his name) said the edges wouldn't tattoo well and the placement wasn't good either. he suggested i work on the font and design some more.

i left, realizing he was the artist and has the experience to give me viable suggestions... took it to lucky devil in capitol hill and had an artist's jaw drop when i told him what i was told.

this is all to say i got the impression that either my design wasn't interesting to the artist or worth his time... which is frustrating when you come to a place with something as personal and meaningful to you as a tattoo. needless to say, it was done at lucky devil, and i love it.

I got my tongue pierced here by Phish about 3 years ago.  Now, I've got to say, I was a little apprehensive (being the big baby I am), but he was great!  The entire store was very clean, and Phish made a point of showing me that all the equipment used was sterile.  He was very good at distracting me from the fact that he was about to jab an angled/rather enormous needle through the bottom of my tongue, and it was over before I knew it...  Didn't hurt at all!!!  REALLY!!!  He was also very clear about after-care, and as a result, I had absolutely no trouble healing...  of course, there was swelling, but that's normal....  and I lost about 6 pounds due to the fact that I couldn't eat solids for a couple of days...  I was nearly tempted to get a fresh piercing every 2 weeks (how's that for a diet plan?)  The thought of having a colander for a tongue snapped me back to my senses though.  Hmmmm...  time for a new one?  Hmmmm...

i had several tattoos done by ed here & they are incredibly beautiful pieces of artwork, not to mention the fact that ed was really kind, professional, and friendly, as was everyone i met there. usually i prefer to be tattooed by women, but i felt really comfortable here.

Nick did my piercing here.  I can definitely recommend him as the best piercer I've ever had.  It was my first time going into a piercing place by myself, and it was absolutely fine.  Very, very clean.  Professional, and precision-oriented.  Go pierce something!

I went to Las Vegas last summer and at the last minute decided to get my nose pierced...my friend in Vegas took me to where she had hers done.  They were great but when I got back I noticed it wasn't looking so great!  I called Slave to the Needle and they were great!  They told me to do sea salt soaks two-three times a day and to come in if it still wasn't great.  So I went in because although it wasn't as bad it wasn't great either.  My mom and I were also a little paranoid and we were in the neighborhood of the Ballard shop.  They took me right in were super chill and nice and looked at it for FREE!  They told me all was good and to keep doing what I was doing.  It cleared up but THEN the stone fell out of the stud so I went in and got my jewelry changed.  They were great!  They garauntee their stones so if my new one falls out they will replace it for free!  Just a month ago i had a job interview and i needed a small stud.  I went in and the lady was really nice and helped me find the smallest stud they had.  I have that in now and you can't even see it from head on!  I love the people there and they never make me feel out of place because I am not pierced all over or have a bunch of tattoos.  Now if only I could figure out how to get the ring out so I can put my other stud in and can buy more jewelry!  I don't have any problems but I will only go there for my piercing needs (jewelry) or concerns.  Now I am looking at getting a tattoo and they will be to first people I tak to...
