Neighborhood: MontroseIf you dig deep to feed your visual fetishes, sans porn, this "in the know" book store is the place to bring your shovel. But don't let the aura of exclusivity deter you. Russel and crew are more than happy to turn any curious art-o-phile onto the hottest in underground art, ultra limited vinyl toys and the most up to date in indie publishing. Check out their website for art exhibitions, touring artist/author events and zany movie nights.
Warning: you will get hooked.

After eating at Chuy's--I convinced the girlfriend to go here. I wanted to see what all of the hype was about. I am always ecstatic when the hype is real. This place is pretty awesome; it's what a bookstore should feel like. Borders really depresses me as of late, with its ridiculous parking and store full of coffee drinking non-readers. Domy will also make Christmas shopping absurdly easy!

I always find my self in heaven at Domy. Not sure if it's because of all the awesome, rare, hard to find books or because i am crazy about all the vinyl toys. They REALLY have an eye for what is intriguing to us.

This place is amazing.
Truly the quintessential "Montrose bookstore."
It's quirky, obscure and totally interesting.
I went in a few months back just to waste some time and check it out. I had heard from several friends that they had some really cool artsy/hip/indie stuff, and I, being a designer myself, couldn't wait to indulge.
The place is small, but they have a good selection of stuff. Memorabilia, obscure and "artsy" books, etc. Prices weren't great, but they were fairly normal for what it was.
All-in-all, if you're looking for somewhere to waste some time and browse around some interesting stuff--then this is the place to go. Warning though: You'll totally want to blow a ridiculous amount of money, so be prepared and leave the credit card at home. ;-)

Man where was Domy when I was a kid! I dig the eclectic style of stuff that they carry, from cool comics to amazing art books. Only minor down side is that it's a bit expensive for some of the stuff they are selling.
great selection of books, I salivated over a Gilles Berquet book, Mirka today. The toys are great and the environment is very pleasant and low key!
This is a must!
This place blew me away with all the neat little toys and rare books they have in stock. The cashier was very friendly and talked to us about the art they had in their "gallery." My favorite thing to mention is every Monday Night they have a free movie showing! Their website had the listings. This is a real Houston treasure, yall!

I've decided that I'm not Asian enough. Nor am I artsy enough. And yet, I really enjoyed the store.
Domy is the quintessential Montrose bookstore. Meaning, everything about it screams indie and quirky. It is in an adorable little house in the thick of things with a great patio in the back, complete with tables and coffee drinkers. The books tend to be art books with a few manga, novels, calendars, and nostalgia thrown in. The walls are covered with cutsie little robots and other collectible toys. In one room, there is a tv with some avant garde dvd playing and walls of overpriced movies available to purchase.
Really, if I were a little more hippy or more in tune with my Asian roots, this would be the perfect place to hang out. But sell out that I am, I like to read mainstream novels once in a while and I just wouldn't be able to find them here. Domy is more of a novelty store than anything and though I enjoyed it, I just can't see anyone coming here often--most of the things just seemed too kitschy.

I've been here more than once and I could only gaze hungrily at everything. The practical side of me knows I will pretty much enshrine anything I buy here, or stow it away for special occasions, so I'm going to keep looking until I muster enough money to buy stuff without breaking my personal bank, or knowing something enough to actually want to buy it. Nonetheless, always worth it to pass by and look into.

This really should have been my first review as it is....only the best store in the whole city. Seriously. Stocking everything from Kid Robot (and I've been to KR in NYC....Domy is better) and more, you can always find something new and wonderful here. When you walk in, there's always a cool art show up on the wall, some cool stuffed things (you know, like moustaches and donuts), and the poetry books. Taking up the middle of the store are two big surgical tables filled with art books and the like surrounded by shelves of the best indie comics around. And the tertiary portion is more cool books, some DVDs, T-shirts, zines and toys. Of course, the toys are scattered all over the place. Better to get you addicted.....Check their website for info on movie nights, too. Oh, and the staff here are the best!

Domy is owned and operated by the same jerks who own Brasil. Don't let the cuteness fool you. I'm sure if you don't buy anything you cannot stay. Boycott these fools and get your cute little toys and books from the CAM or MFAH. They have the same stuff and the money actually goes to a better place.
dunny make me dance and there is always something cool!!!
great buyers and interesting selection!!
This is my default shopping location for any birthday or gift-giving occasion. My bookworm friends love the selection of obscure coffee table books, art publications, and McSweeny's volumes. And my film buff friends can't get enough of the DVDs I find. My daughter adores their collection of vinyl and stuffed toys (although I'm not sure she quite "gets" them). I've had mixed experiences with the staff at Domy - usually they are incredibly helpful and friendly, but on a couple occasions I've dealt with a needlessly blasé employee, who really put me off. Still, I'll always go back to Domy - it surely is a haven amongst monoliths like Borders and Barnes & Noble.

Great little Indie Art Book store. Art on the walls, and TONS of Kid-Robot Toys! Its a Vinyl toy lovers Dream! The staff are really nice and helpful. Sign up for their mailing list and it never fails to satisfy! Be aware that you will be tempted to buy everything! This is why it tends to be pricey! But Hell I its worth it.

Low-brow art books, vinyl toys, hard to find videos, tshirts, anime all in a cute lil house. Friendly and helpful staff. Went here for a kidrobot event and they had wine and cheese. I want to buy everything. Bad for my wallet. This place is da shiznit!!!!
